Description of the road from Brasov to Poiana Brasov
The distance between Brasov and Poiana Brasov is of approximately 12 kilometers and it is reachable within 15-20 minutes if you are driving along the DN 1 road. So you have to follow the ‘centre’ path, which is signaled at every town entrance or important crossroads.
As you get close to the city centre you will find traffic signs to Poiana Brasov. The road from Brasov is very well maintained and it is little likely that it will be closed due to snow. A few times a year, this road host car racing competitions (mountain track speed rally) and on these occasions, car access can be forbidden for a few hours.
The roads climb and descend with winding curves, the scenery in the mountains is simply breath-taking, and the blue slopes that bring you down are beautiful. Though we don’t recommend terrorizing these twisties, there’s nothing wrong with fantasizing about a little drifting. Slicing around the mountain in the relative safety of your car, you might feel a swell of thankfulness for your engine. The road surprises you with a new picture perfect setting behind nearly every corner so when you stop for a rest at one of the vantage points, with incredible views over a deep green mountain valley, you almost feel like you are on the top of the world.
Poiana Brasov is located 1200 m above sea level and it is the most appreciated national ski resort, situated at the foot of the Postavarul Massif (1802 m), elevation 1030 m. After the 2010s modernization, the ski area has expanded from 50 hectares to 80 hectares and the slopes length was increased from 13.8 km to 23.9 km.
A visit to this place and you will leave with a respect for the land. The sheer size, the mountain range, the clean, ozone-rich air, the stunning visuals of the mountains and its surrounding area, will take your breath away. Absorb stunning mountain views as you travel through!
