GC-210 Road Description
The GC-210 is a steep and narrow road, located on the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, Spain. It’s also known as the loneliest road on the island since it’s not a highly trafficked one. Also, it was featured in the Fast & Furious 6 movie, so that means passionate drivers will have a trip ahead to get excited about. So, you have plenty of reasons to come here and test it out if you are an enthusiast driver.
This route connects La Aldea de San Nicolás de Tolentino with El Rincón and goes through Artenara. Artenara reaches an elevation of 1270 m (4167 ft) and is the highest and one of the oldest villages of the island.
The GC-210 definitely is a challenging road as it’s narrow and very steep. Luckily, there isn’t much traffic going on here, so you won’t have to worry about other cars. Nonetheless, you might encounter other drivers that came here to do the same thing: enjoy driving a dangerous road.
It features a winding design, and it’s the kind of road where you will have to use your breaks a lot. There are many hairpins turns to drive on as the road climbs. At the top of the road, you will find two reservoir dams, the Presa Caidero de la Niña and Presa del Parralillo.
It snakes through the rocky landscape and has an average gradient of 4%, but it also reaches 9% on some sections. Overall, the GC-210 road features 32 hairpin turns.
The scenery is a particular one as well. The Canary islands feature a volcanic landscape so you bet it’s going to look different that want you are used to.
The GC-210 is a dangerous road, not only because of the many turns and the narrowness of the way but also because of avalanches and landslides. Moreover, it’s very slippery when wet and driving here during heavy rainfall or winds, can make it even harder to drive. So, prepare yourself for a tough road to drive, but also a rewarding one that will give you plenty of thrills. Also, since there aren’t many cars around, you will have enough time to enjoy the views which are spectacular.
