Llanberis Pass Description
Llanberis Pass can be found on the A4086 road, in Wales and will take drivers from Capel Curig village to the Caernafon town. Along the way, drivers will be able to enjoy a winding mountain road that takes them past Glyderau and one of Britain’s most famous mountains, the Snowdon.
The pass is located at an elevation of 360 metres (1,180 ft), between the mountain ranges of the Glyderau and the Snowdon massif in Snowdonia in North Wales. The pass is also called Bwlch Llanberis.
The road to the Llanberis Pass is a breathtaking one, and it is also known to be dangerous. Nowadays, it’s a tourist attraction also because of the nearby places, such as the highest mountain in England and Wales, the twin lakes of Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris, and more. The area is famous for its rugged beauty and many slate mines.
There are 4 routes to reach the summit. You can start in Llanberis and drive on a 7 km long ascent with an elevation gain of 346 meters and an average percentage of 4.9%. Starting from Capel Curig, you will drive for 8 km, and the elevation gain will be 176 meters, with an average percentage of 2.2%. From Beddgelert, the ascent will be 10 km long and the elevation gain 281 meters with an average percentage of 2.8%. Last, but not least, starting from Nant Peris, the ascent is 4,66 km long, the elevation gain 300 meters and the average percentage 6.4%.
The Capel Curig to Caernarfon route takes travelers through a beautiful journey and a great drive. The road goes along the water for approximately one mile before reaching a stretch featuring curves and elevation changes. There also are road sections that become narrower and offers an even more beautiful scenery. You will see here green trees, crystal lakes, like the one of Llynnau Mymbyr, mountains. The higher you ascend, the more impressive the scenery will become.
Once you reach the Llanberis Pass summit and start heading downhill, the journey becomes even better. You’ll experience swift turns and blind spots obstructed by walls. You should enjoy this road driving at a moderately slow speed. The Llanberis Pass offers driver everything they would expect from a great route to drive. It has swift turns, blond spots that make it dangerous. Also, there is a thrilling and breathtaking scenery to complete.
