Carretera del Faro de Punta de Teno Description

Carretera del Faro de Punta de Teno is a special road. It can be characterized through sharply winding turns and a steep ascent. Located in Tenerife, it’s the largest and most populated island. Also, it’s part of the seven Canary Islands in Spain.
Since there is a great danger of rock and earth falling, this is considered a dangerous road. Even so, it’s a great one to drive. Drivers love the adrenaline rush they feel on this kind of roads. Some may recognize if from the opening scene of the Fast and Furious 6 movie. It’s no wonder they chose to film it here. This road offers all the elements avid drivers are looking for. It’s a narrow zig-zag road with unexpected turns that takes skill and courage to drive.

Sighseeing in the area

carretera de acceso de Teno

The road is asphalted, but extremely dangerous due to the narrow sections that are barely wide enough for two cars to fit in, at the same time. There are some sections without marked central lines. One must drive carefully when here. The low barrier isn’t enough to protect you from falling in the deep ravines. So, there is little room for error. Because it’s such a dangerous road, it’s closed during windy or rainy days.

This road here, TF-445, links the Buenavista town to the lighthouse. Starting the drive from Buenavista del Nte, you will find 9,2 km of steep sections, tight turns and a low concrete barrier that separates you from a high drop.
It’s not recommended to those that suffer from vertigo or are afraid of landslides. Moreover, you will go through cliffs, precipices and ravines. If you’re up to this challenge, the experience will be a unique one. The views are amazing and worth the drive.

The way takes travelers to a lighthouse on a cliff in the Natural Park of Teno. So, after a not so long, but dangerous ride, the reward will be a breathtaking view. Also, along the way, you can come across a factory and a wind farm. This is the most westerly point in Tenerife. The nervy drive is worth all the effort. On the horizon, opposite the lighthouse, you can see Los Gigantes cliffs, as well as a small bay, popular with local fishers. It’s an idyllic place, with fantastic views.
